The NDC Coordination and Implementation Forum is a cross-sector initiative that brings together government, industry, standards organizations, and technology partners to coordinate the planning, dependencies, testing, and implementation required for a timely and efficient transition to the 12-digit NDC.
The NDC is embedded throughout healthcare and across prescription, over-the-counter, and animal drug channels. It is in product data, packaging and barcodes, ordering and inventory, prescribing and dispensing, claims and reimbursement, clinical systems, public health programs, regulatory processes, and countless other workflows.
No one organization, sector, or government agency can successfully navigate this transition alone. The NDC Forum is where the healthcare ecosystem comes together to align, prepare, and coordinate for a successful transition to the 12-digit NDC.
Who Is Involved
The Forum brings together manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies, health systems, providers, payers and PBMs, technology and data companies, standards organizations, trade associations, federal and state government agencies, and other stakeholders whose systems and decisions are interconnected with one straightforward purpose: help the ecosystem see the whole transition, not just its individual pieces.
The Value of the Forum
Important work on the NDC transition is happening across regulators, standards development organizations, trade associations, technology companies, and individual sectors. The NDC Forum does not replace those efforts; it connects them. That visibility and coordination helps ensure that implementation decisions, timelines, and technical approaches align across the ecosystem, reducing the risk of incompatible changes, downstream disruption, duplicative work, and costly rework later in the transition.
