The Roadmap

The NDC Implementation Roadmap will provide a shared, cross-sector view of the major activities, milestones, dependencies, and decision points required to successfully implement the 12-digit NDC. 

The roadmap will help stakeholders understand how their work connects to the work of others, including where activities must be sequenced, where sectors depend on one another, and where coordination is needed to avoid incompatible approaches, delays, and costly rework. As it develops, the roadmap will help stakeholders: 

• Understand the path to 2033 by identifying major implementation phases and milestones.  

• See cross-sector dependencies and understand where one organization or sector's readiness depends on another.  

• Track ecosystem progress and identify areas that may be ahead of schedule or falling behind.  

• Surface critical decision points and emerging risks early enough for stakeholders to address them.  

• Inform organizational planning by giving participants a broader ecosystem context for their own implementation roadmaps.  

The initial implementation timeline developed during our May NDC Workshop provides a starting framework for the roadmap. The NDC Forum is now working with stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem to further develop and validate this view.
